What are the top keto protein powders that are safe to use while doing keto while breastfeeding?
You may be wondering if you can still be drinking keto protein powders while breastfeeding. The answer is yes! I know as busy new mamas we need to have some quick and easy meals or snacks for those busy days. Keeping one of these low-carb and keto protein powders in the house is a must for one of those days.
Many mamas don’t get enough protein in while doing keto and breastfeeding and having a protein shake can help get your protein intake up. Having a protein shake is also a really helpful way to get in more greens, healthy fats, and lactation-boosting ingredients.
Check out my top keto protein powder recommendations below:

This one doesn’t contain any healthy fat so you would need to add some of your own when using this. Things link coconut cream, coconut milk, avocado, MCT oil, and coconut oil are all good fats to add in to this shake.
This is another keto-friendly protein shake sweetened with stevia and monk fruit.

*** Make sure to look at the label for the flavor you are purchasing. Some of the bigger containers contain sucralose. So make sure to get the bags that are only sweetened with monk fruit and stevia.
This one is a plant-based protein using a blend of pea protein, brown rice protein, and sacha inchi protein. This makes it a great vegan and dairy-free option. This protein is sweetened with stevia.

Another added bonus to this one contains some greens.
What should look for when choosing a keto protein powder while breastfeeding?
While breastfeeding it is really important to choose a good clean protein powder. There are so many protein powders that are full of artificial and processed ingredients and sweeteners. So here are a few things to look for on the ingredient list and nutritional label:
- What is the protein powder sweetened with?
- Are there any artificial ingredients on the label?
- What are the macros on the product?
All the protein powders listed above are keto-approved and have great ingredients.
Do I have to have a protein powder when doing keto?
No, protein powders aren’t a must while doing the keto diet. I personally just love to have one on hand if needed for those busy days. But, you can get protein from other sources like:
- eggs
- grass-fed meats
- nuts and nut butter
- seeds
- yogurt
- cottage cheese
- cheese or other full-fat dairies (if tolerated)
- wild-caught fish
- bone broth
What are some ways to use protein powders?
I love to use protein powders in lactation smoothies. Check out these recipes for a Blueberry Keto Lactation Smoothie or this Lactation Keto Mocha Frappe.
